About Granada
Our school in Granada, as well as the majority of our accommodation, is located in the center of Granada very close to the Alhambra and the Albaicin.
Granada is beautifully situated in the heart of Andalusia at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and very close to the Mediterranean. A land of soft, warm summers and winters conducive to the enjoyment of winter sports on the higher Iberian Peninsula peaks - a very privileged location. The Albaicin, declared a UNESCO heritage site in 1994, is the oldest and most picturesque neighborhood in Granada. With the classic Arab medina layout, the Albaicin was the origin of this city, the residence of the Zirids kings and shelter of the Moors. The school is just a 10 minute walk from the Albaicin.
The center of Granada boasts a large variety and selection of restaurants where you can enjoy the traditional Granada and Mediterranean cuisine, you will also find a large amount of bars where they serve tapas, i.e. with each drink, such as a beer or soda, you will be served a free tapa (small portion of a traditional food). It is very common among students in Granada to eat out and take a tour of the different bars buying drinks (with tapa).
Granada brings together a wide variety of shops along its historic streets and towns. In some, times seems to have stood still and they preserve the traditional crafts of pottery and ceramics, woodwork and leather, guitar building, textiles and metal work. Granada is one of the principal references for flamenco in Spain and Sacromonte is one of the cradles of this art form. The gypsy neighborhood is the epicenter of what experts call the jondura (depth) and the soul and origin of the zambra, a festival of song and dance that dates back to the sixteenth century and in particular to the wedding rituals of the city´s Moors.
